F-attachment rotary valve
This instrument is a slight mystery. The slide receiver on the bell section is stamped 70H, but no serial number has been found on the bell section. The back of the F-attachment rotary valve is stamped 13. Our collection has two slides associated with this instrument, however the provenance records have been lost, so it is unclear which slide came with this instrument. One slide is stamped with the serial number 276219 and 1 on the outer slide; inner slide stamped 1 and 8H / SPEC / 276219. The other slide is stamped with the serial number 191760 (on water key and both slides) and the inner slide is also stamped 70 and 2. Since no serial number has been found on the bell section, it is unclear if one slide is original. The serial number of 276219 on the 8H slide suggests a date of c. 1930; the serial number of 191760 on the 70H slide suggests a date of c. 1922. The 8H was a large tenor trombone model while the 70H was a bass trombone model. Please note: the 8H slide was photographed with the bell.
This trombone might be considered a “Fuchs” model, which is an early style of bass trombone produced by the Conn company.
Main tuning slide is on hand slide. The 70H slide (not pictured) has a tuning mechanism with adjustable screw.
