Slide receiver stamped “4H”. Bell stem and main tuning slide joint stamped “13C”. Back of water key stamped with serial number. Outer slide stamped with “4H” and serial number. Inner slide stamped with serial number. Both slides also stamped “10”.
This model of tenor trombone (Conn 4H Artist Model, Medium Bore) is described in 1924 Conn Trombone Sectional Catalogue (pages 2-3): “This model was manufactured especially for the Orchestra musician who preferred a broader tone than the Small Bore Artist Model. Its tone is rich, yet quite brilliant, possessing a quality that blends particularly well with orchestral instruments. It is used in Band also and has in quite a few instances been adopted by the Artists as a solo as well as business playing trombone.”
Depending on the year of the Conn catalog, the model name might change between “Artist Model” and “Artists’ Model”.
